Electrochemical Passivating Reagent for Stainless Steel

MIR EPAS-SS Electrochemical Passivating Reagent for Stainless Steel is required to use in conjunction with the company's electrochemical passivation equipment. The process will form a layer of insoluble dense and strong oxide or other compound films on the metal surface according to the electrochemical principles. The passivation film formed under the strong electrochemical reaction has good corrosion resistance and it is better than the film formed from chemical passivation. Tests show that the salt spray test on electrochemically passivated stainless steel 316L can exceed 1000h.

After electrochemical passivation, a passivation film is formed on the stainless steel matrix’s surface, which is integrated with the matrix. It is not attached to the surface like a coating and will not fall off. Also, the surface post-treatment can maintain the same status as before the treatment. For example, after electrochemical passivation, a mirror-polished or brushed surface preserves the original effect without visible changes on the appearance. Its corrosion resistance has become far higher than the original state.

Good corrosion resistance also makes the surface of stainless steel have an excellent anti-fingerprint effect. In practical applications, it is significant to use electrochemical passivation on stainless steel instead of chromium plating, as electrochemical passivation completely avoids the serious pollution caused by the hexavalent chromium from the chromium plating process.
